A cure for loneliness

Bob Ramsey’s August column about loneliness was compelling. As Loaves and Fishes’ executive director, I see firsthand how loneliness deeply affects people's daily lives and sense of well-being. Using the UCLA Loneliness Scale, Cigna discovered that loneliness is widespread in America, with 2 in 5 people feeling like "they lack companionship," that their "relationships aren't meaningful" and that they "are isolated from others". To expand on Mariar Gannon’s letter to the editor (Sept. 6) showcasing the wide array of activities available at Creekside Community Center, I want to add that delicious, nutritious meals are served Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Creekside. Loaves and Fishes’ meals are free to anyone in need – for any reason, including to combat loneliness. So please consider joining us for dinner. You’ll find a welcoming environment, with healthy meals that help stretch limited financial resources, promote safe social interaction, alleviate loneliness, and build strong communities.
