The only way Loaves & Fishes can feed 3,500 meals every day is through our volunteers. Religious groups, employees, teams, and other groups come to our 33 open to the public dining sites to serve our guests healthy meals. We believe anyone can volunteer, and two young brothers show us that anyone can serve at any age.
Colten and Jameson Varco ages 8 and 10 respectively, love to volunteer. “Loaves and Fishes is fun work. The people are always happy about the meal and we like the job,” Jameson said. The two brothers are members of St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Roseville and regularly volunteer at the Holy Rosary dining site in Minneapolis.
According to their grandfather, Gary Langer, the two boys are eager to volunteer with Loaves & Fishes. “They thoroughly look forward to serving the guests and cleaning up,” Langer said.” They are the first ones to sign up on the church bulletin board. “
Langer adds that his grandsons also look forward to serving guests and cleaning up afterward. “They help serve chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans,” he said. “They also enjoy mopping the floors, carrying trays, cleaning tables and helping in the dish room.”
Younger brother Colten think volunteering at Loaves & Fishes is just plain fun. “I enjoy working at Loaves and Fishes. It is a lot of fun and the people are always very nice and are happy about t0he food.”
We enjoy our volunteers who generously give of their time. Thanks to everyone for your generosity and thanks especially to Colten and Jameson. YOU make a difference!
