Loaves & Fishes is a nonprofit organization with a mission to serve free, healthy meals to Minnesotans where the need is greatest. We are guided by our vision that all people – regardless of socioeconomic, cultural, religious, or ethnic background – deserve to meet their basic needs for food, dignity, and respect. We meet hunger through multi-faceted meal programming including community meal sites, summer meals and snack for students, street outreach, and partnering with local nonprofits/institutional programs to provide meals for their clients. 

POSITION SUMMARY

Loaves & Fishes is seeking a Site Coordinator to ensure the success of our growing operations, providing a variety of kitchen leadership opportunities. This position is responsible for serving out our mission to provide healthy meals to guests, by effectively leading kitchens, maintaining positive relationships with the community, lead the kitchen operations from open to close, and follow best management practices to continuously improve the experience of our guests and volunteers. The Site Coordinator cares about food insecurity and barriers to food access in our community. They are passionate about engaging others to support our work to ensure we can continue providing free meals to our families, friends, and neighbors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

MISSION AMBASSADOR

  • Represent Loaves & Fishes in a positive manner while promoting program mission and vision
  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere for guests of all backgrounds
  • Ability to treat others with dignity and respect
  • Ability to work with various groups with differing needs

SITE COORDINATION

  • Follow best management practices, adhering to all food management policies, procedures, and guidelines as required by MN Certified Food Protection Manager trainings
  • Create and execute site procedures in conjunction with the Operation Leadership Team
  • Maintain clean and organized kitchen and storage spaces
  • Responsible to conduct all opening procedures, meal planning, preparation, service, and closure procedures independently or with minimal assistance in the absence of volunteers teams
  • Manage inventory at the meal site and reporting needs to Central Office Operations Team
  • Ability to travel in personal vehicle to Meal Site, Central Office, and Commissary Kitchen as required
  • Duties as assigned

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT

  • Ability to develop and train volunteers with support of Director of Volunteers
  • Lead volunteer huddle at shift start
  • Create a fulfilling volunteer experience and schedule as set by the Director of Volunteers & Outreach
  • Follow basic volunteer policies and procedures
  • Organizes and delegates volunteer site responsibilities as appropriate
  • Communicating frequently ensuring volunteers are fulfilled and successful in their roles
  • Assist with obtaining current volunteer contact information in conjunction with the Director of Volunteers

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Certifications Required: Food Manager Certification, MN CFPM, and Civil Rights. Training, exam platform, and fees associated are provided. *Note: One exam and one exam retake is paid in full; employee will be responsible for fees beyond 2 exams
  • Perform administrative duties including frequent monitoring of emails and submitting paperwork to the Central Office as required
  • Comply with organization requirements to collect and report necessary meal count statistics
  • Review weekly meal site outlook calendars and volunteer platform for site coordination
  • Communicate with Central Office staff and attend trainings and meetings as required

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Previous experience in management and/or regulation in foodservice operations, social services, volunteer coordination/management, or related
  • Ability to take direction from management
  • Ability to make clear decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Cooking experience (preferred, but not required)

  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; frequent walking, reaching below shoulder/overhead, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, standing, and sitting
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 80 pounds, or willingness to repack donations.
  • The potential for prolonged standing, walking, squatting, and/or bending
  • Ability to enter a cold case, cooler, and freezer thereby being subjected to cold temperatures for extended periods of time
  • Work environment of varying temperatures (kitchen/warehouse/office environments) and frequent exposure to outdoor elements during meal service (varies per site)
  • Work environment also includes hot ovens, slippery floors, and working with knives and other sharp objects
