Every year, the Minnesota State Fair generates surplus food. This year, Loaves & Fishes partnered with the Minnesota State Fair to rescue it, turning leftover milk, fries, and more into meals for our community. Here’s how it worked, and why it matters.

This summer, a youth leadership group from small-town Nebraska handed over their phones and traveled to Loaves & Fishes with no idea what each day would hold. What they found, washing grapes, sharing tables, and serving alongside our Site Coordinator Mel, wasn’t the chance to make a difference. It was the chance to be different.
In 1954, St. Mark’s United Church of Christ opened its doors in Bloomington, Minnesota. Seventy years later, as they closed those doors for the last time, they made one final decision in the same spirit they’d always lived by: sharing their legacy with organizations still doing the work they believed in.
That legacy is now our summer match. Through August 31, every donation to Loaves & Fishes will be doubled, dollar-for-dollar, up to $115,000—enough to help provide ~275,000 meals for Minnesotans facing hunger.
