Position Summary

In conjunction with the MN Department of Education, we partner with local organizations to accommodate youth while school is out of session. Through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Loaves & Fishes brings fresh produce, balanced meals, and snacks to children during summer break. Our summer interns play an integral role in our summer programming through assisting with SFSP meal preparation, distribution, and site supervision at select sites. Interns work closely with program chefs and staff to ensure that meals and snacks are prepared and delivered on time, that select sites run smoothly and efficiently, and that every guest has a positive experience.

Primary Duties

  • Represent Loaves & Fishes in a positive manner while promoting program mission and vision.
  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere for guests of all backgrounds.
  • Train and test for the Food Manager Certification
  • Train and test for all SFSP Certifications as required
  • Assist Commissary Kitchen Chefs with maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Work in conjunction with Commissary Kitchen Chefs to plan, prepare, cook, and package meals and snacks in accordance with SFSP guidelines
  • Work in conjunction with Commissary Kitchen Chefs to prepare and cook meals; supporting various Community Meal Sites across the Twin Cities.
  • Maintain accurate SFSP records as set by the Commissary Kitchen Chefs
  • Comply with SFSP requirements to collect and report necessary statistics.
  • At select SFSP Sites: responsible for overseeing meal distribution to youth independently or with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to travel in personal vehicle to SFSP sites across the Twin Cities; delivering meals/snacks
  • Communicate with Central Office staff and attend meetings as required.
  • Duties as assigned.

  • Cooking experience (preferred; but not required)

Education

We are looking for college students and/or recent graduates. Preferred; but not required majors in Food Industry Management, Non-Profit Management, Undeclared, Individual Studies, General Studies, Agriculture, or Food Science.

This position requires a personal vehicle to transport food, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
