Feeding Children

Our yummy and nutritious meals and snacks are served to students through two programs:

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded program administered by the Nutrition Program Services Division at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). The CACFP provides payments for meals and snacks served at Adult Care Centers, Child Care Centers, Day Care Homes, At-Risk After School Care Centers and Emergency Shelters. Meals and snacks must meet minimum guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The CACFP helps institutions and daycare homes serve well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks to the participants in their care. Serving nutritious meals and snacks contributes to the wellness, healthy growth and development of young children, and the health and wellness of older adults. Loaves & Fishes will sponsor the Child and Adult Care Food Program for the 2023-2024 school year!

Testimonial: From a Mom

Jenny is a working mother with four kids. Their family relies on free school lunches during the school year. She is grateful for our summer meals served when school is out of session because, “It’s really good food, and helps cut down the cost of summer.” She takes home extra meals when there are leftovers, and says her children enjoy visiting with friends they wouldn’t otherwise see in the summer.
